Field Day

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2011 Great Plains Summer Field Day that was held on August 12 at Camp Carol Joy Holling.  We also greatly appreciate the sponsors and exhibitors that made field day financially feasible.  Kudos to the wonderful line-up of speakers that enriched our knowledge and understanding, along with stimulating discussions that hopefully are continuing as attendees share their experiences.

The NNLA along with the Nebraska Arborists Association planned the field day together and look forward to doing a joint field day together again in 2012.  Eric Berg kicked off the day by expanding on the discussion from the Expo regarding production, growing methods, and installation.   He also provided a tree planting demonstration in the afternoon.  Virtual landscape tours were provided by three diverse companies along with discussions ranging from the design to installation.   The NNLA designed and planted their first community project during field day, as was discussed at the annual membership meeting at the Nebraska Green Expo.  Phil Pierce educated attendees on tree assessments.  Dan Mekkus shared his extensive knowledge and experience of tree climbing and safety.  The camp was a beautiful setting for the Field Day and offered a lot of hands on opportunities to learn.  More details will be provided in the fall newsletter.
